I volunteered at the march on Saturday 6 November. The protest was split into blocks, and it was led by indigenous groups and groups based in Glasgow that support indigenous voices. The COP coalition felt it was paramount for the protest to be led by those who are the most affected by climate change and who are often the least amplified voices in mainstream media. As a march steward, I felt very honoured to be assisting with this block throughout the march and met some very inspirational people. It was about 3 miles long in some quite heavy rain at points so we definitely all helped each other to keep the morale up! But my main role was to support safety and facilitate the march. We created a human block around the protestors as we all marched, so that photographers and other members of the public wouldn’t disrupt the flow of the march or become a threat to anyone’s safety. These pictures were taken before the march began- the artwork was created by some of the indigenous protestors and people were invited to create a circle of solidarity around the brilliant artwork laid out in Kelvingrove Park.
