Anne and I watched four documentary films related to an indigenous call for climate action. We had the great pleasure of listening to voices from Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and Myanmar.
At the end of the documentary films we also witnessed the testimonies of two representatives from the Wampi Nation in Peru and I even had the opportunity to discuss and take a picture with one of them.
We enjoyed very much the event and learnt a bit more of the different realities of the indigenous communities in Latin America and Asia. As a Peruvian I felt proud of assisting to this screening. It was undoubtedly a great satisfaction that the whole auditorium could see the indigenous situation in the Peruvian Amazon due to illegal mining and logging, as well as understand how important it is to protect the area and its people.

๐๐๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐ง ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ฒ โ ๐๐๐๐-๐๐ ๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐จ๐ก๐จ๐ซ๐ญ: I volunteered at the march on Saturday 6 November. The protest was split into blocks, and it was led by indigenous groups and groups based in Glasgow that support indigenous voices. The COP coalition felt it was paramount for the protest to be led by those who are the most affected by climate change and who are often the least amplified voices in mainstream media. As a march steward, I felt very honoured to be assisting with this block throughout the march and met some very inspirational people. It was about 3 miles long in some quite heavy rain at points so we definitely all helped each other to keep the morale up! But my main role was to support safety and facilitate the march. We created a human block around the protestors as we all marched, so that photographers and other members of the public wouldn't disrupt the flow of the march or become a threat to anyone's safety. These pictures were taken before the march began- the artwork was created by some of the indigenous protestors and people were invited to create a circle of solidarity around the brilliant artwork laid out in Kelvingrove Park.
European Migration Management - Seminar
On 10 November 2021, EUROSUD hosted a Seminar on โEuropean Migration Managementโ, held in Glasgow city centre, with participation of distinguished guest speakers, over zoom.
Lefteris Papagianakis is the Director of the Greek Council for Refugees, with extensive policy, advocacy and research experience on migrant and refugee affairs. Among others, he served as Vice Mayor of Athens (2016-19), responsible for Migrants, Refugees and Municipal Decentralization. Short Bio.
Steffen Lรผdke is a journalist at Der SPIEGEL and prominent researcher on the failures of Frontex in securing human rights for migrants. Here are some of his articles, translated to English: 23 October 2020; 5 February 2021; 29 April 2021, and an article summarising recent investigations: "Our Orders Are Clear. Nobody Gets Through."
Contributing to the fascinating discussion, along with our students, was Dr Gerasimos Tsourapas, a leading academic expert on refugee politics and migration diplomacy and our newest EUROSUD (and Glasgow University) staff member.
Participants explored the challenges and contradictions of European migration policy and its implications for crisis management, international human rights and European integration.
Meet our Programme Director - EUROSUD Autonomous University Madrid (UAM)
My name is Anne-Marie Reynaers. I am a Professor of Public Administration at theย Department of Political Science and International Relationsย at the Autonomous University Madrid. I joined the Erasmus Mundus International Master in South European Studies (EUROSUD) as Programme Director, (Madrid), in September of this year, a role I am very much looking forward to.
Previously, I worked at the Universityย of Amsterdam and the VU University Amsterdam. Iย hold a PhDย in Public Administrationย (VU University Amsterdam)ย and a Research Masterโsย degree in Public Administration and Organizational Scienceย (Utrecht University School of Governance).
My research interests include Public-private partnerships, Public management, Public service delivery, Public sector reform, Good governance, and Public values.ย I am a member of theย Innovation, Technology and Public Managementย research group and I coordinate theย Master in Democracy and Governmentย and the Master EUROSUD South European Studies.

Afaf represents COY 16 (16th) United Nations Conference of Youth at COP26 Glasgow, Scotland
Afaf Sebbar, a 20-year old, EUROSUD student (2021-2023 cohort) on the Madrid-Aix pathway . Has been chosen to represent her home country (Morocco) at the COY16.
COY 16 is the (16th) United Nations Conference of Youth. An official event in preparation for the COP 26. This conference serves as the official space for capacity building and policy training for young climate leaders from across the globe. The conference will culminate in a policy document shared during COP26. being held in Glasgow, Scotland.
COY16 will be held in Glasgow on 28-30 October.
Afaf said "My EUROSUD courses have helped me understand the climate cause from an International Relations perspective. As our main focus is on Mediterranean countries, I am now aware of the environmental dangers surrounding this region and how they can be solved through climate diplomacy".
Conflict Resolution (Cyprus) Seminar - October 2021
The Conflict Resolution seminar took place in October 2021 via zoom. We were in the fortunate position to have two outstanding guest speakers for this session who were invited to the EUROSUD class of Southern Europe in International Affairs taught by Prof Georgios Karyotis. Professor Ahmet Sรถzen (Eastern Mediterranean University ) and Professor Costas Constantinou (University of Cyprus). Both shared their professional and personal experiences of navigating this conflict with the students.
Professor Sรถzen commented: "EUROSUD students, by far, have been one of the most active and engaged students compared to the other groups to whom I give seminars several times a year.
Indeed, as Costa put it, it is always a pleasure and easier to do this seminar with students who have prior knowledge and have special interest in the region."

We are very proud of our very first cohort of students (2019-21) who will be graduating in December in @UofGlasgow.
Despite studying and travelling to mobility locations in the middle of a pandemic these students have shown such resilience during these challenging times and have done amazingly well in the final outcome of their studies. They will be a great asset to any employer!
We are very excited to see them again in Glasgow for the final leg of this very challenging journey.

My EUROSUD Internship at the UN Population Fund EECARO
Hi! This is Can from Istanbul, Turkey, a final year student of the EUROSUD International Master Programme, currently studying at Aix-Marseille University in France while interning at the UNFPA EECARO.
While almost completing, I appreciate more the opportunities given and the doors opened by EUROSUD in different corners of Europe. I started this programme in Glasgow with everyone else thinking that it will change my life and career prospects and I am not disappointed. Even though the pandemic interrupted everything, including our mobility, classes, and expectations from future, it didnโt stop us to continue to study, blend in different cultures and customs, create networks and act for future.
Currently, I am doing an internship at the UN Population Fund Eastern Europe and Central Asia Regional Office in my hometown, Istanbul. As one of the major UN agencies, UNFPA works on issues ranging from sexual and maternal health to gender equality and population issues such as ageing and youth. As the communications intern, I am pleased to contribute to such crucial issues for the regionโs and the worldโs sustainability.ย As an intern for the regional office, I work with 17 country offices and several other teams to coordinate events, publications, and projects. I support the development and execution of UNFPA communication campaigns such as Day of the Girl Child, Older Persons Day, or International Equal Pay Day.
My background in regional studies from EUROSUD helps me to understand the issues relevant to different regions. Also, the international atmosphere and language abilities I had chance to develop throughout the programme have been important assets before and during my internship at the UN. So, thanks to the EUROSUD experience, I am much more confident and capable of achieving my career goals.
EUROSUD 2021-23 Student Induction
The University of Glasgow warmly welcomed the new student intake of EUROSUD International students, who came from 21 countries around the globe, to the City of Glasgow.
The first stage of a 2-year International Master in South European Studies, students will spend the first semester in Glasgow, before venturing to their next location, depending on their choice of pathway, selecting between Athens or Madrid for Semester 2, adding Rome and Marseille, with a Winter School in Lisbon in year 2.
Day 1 of Induction, the students were introduced to teaching and Administrative staff who gave them an overview of the courses and the administrative side of the programme, providing an opportunity for questions.
A social event was organised in the evening at the CCA - Centre for Contemporary Arts, Saramago Cafe Bar, in Sauchiehall Street, in Glasgow City, with a buffet and drinks. There was a great atmosphere as everyone got to know each other, some meeting for the first time. It was a great night!
Classes have now started, and so the EUROSUD journey begins!
Meet Merima Muhic EUROSUD Int Master Student - Summer Vacation Internship
I spent my summer (July and August) doing an internship at the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in London, working closely with the ambassador His Excellency Mr Vanja Filipovic. I mostly worked on preparing weekly reports on events in the UK or events around the world that the UK has a significant role in. These reports would then be looked over, edited, and delivered back to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It was a lovely experience! The idea of doing an internship at one of the embassies always seemed so distant to me, because of the importance and the level at which such an institution operates. I was lucky enough to have a very open and constructive communication with the Ambassador, and he allowed me a to have a lot of "creative freedom", but also made sure to show me the protocol and the usual correspondences with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs back home. It was also a great opportunity to learn how to section out the most important and accurate facts in a time when there is an overwhelming amount of information.
